Judging by the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast, host Scott Aukerman is a huge hip-hop fan. Rap battles are a regular feature on the show, with Aukerman always beginning “My name’s Rappin’ Scott and I’m here to say, it’s fun to rap in a [fill in the blank] way.” His IFC talk show has also shown a penchant for highlighting rap in an offbeat (and sometimes off-key) way. With Auto-tune maestro T-Pain set to stop by this week, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the greatest (and most surprising) rappers to ever sit on the CBB couch.
5. MC Andrew Lloyd Webber
Comedy Bang! Bang! all-star Paul F. Tompkins shows up here as a rapping Andrew Lloyd Webber, putting a new spin on his classic musical Jesus Christ Superstar. Let’s hope something rhymes with Judas.
4. Kid Cudi
Kid Cudi had a lot of great moments during his time as a CB!B! bandleader, but we’ll never forget his take on Riff Raff in the show’s Rocky Horror Picture Show spoof.
3. The Lonely Island
Canadian Indie Pop stars Tegan and Sara have a problem. Ever since their hit “Everything is Awesome,” from The Lego Movie, the Lonely Island boys insist on following them around and interrupting them with rap verses, which is just plain rude.
2. Schoolboy Q
Schoolboy Q gave Scott some inside info during his season four appearance. Did you know that he got his name thanks to a very specific sponsorship deal? “I get paid a sh– ton of money just to say the letter Q,” he revealed.
1. A$AP Rocky
Thank god for Reggie Watts. The former bandleader may be gone, but will never be forgotten, what with all the blunts he left in the couch cushions. Here, hip-hop superstar A$AP Rocky proved even weed couldn’t make host Scott Aukerman (“Not Smoker-man”) cool.
